Privacy Policy
Thanked is a family gift tracker. We built it to help you and your family keep a list of gifts you’ve received and make sure thank-yous get sent. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
1Scope
This policy applies to the Thanked mobile application and any related services we provide (the “Service”). It doesn’t cover third-party services we link out to (like the Apple App Store), which have their own policies.
2Information We Collect
Account information
When you sign up, we use Sign in with Apple. Apple shares with us a stable user identifier and — depending on your choices in Apple’s sign-in sheet — a name and email address (which may be a private relay address). We use this to create your account and let you sign back in.
Content you create
As you use Thanked, you create content about gifts your family has received. That can include:
- Gift descriptions, dates, and free-form notes;
- Photos of gifts you’ve taken or imported;
- Names (and optional contact details) of recipients and gifters in your family circle;
- Occasions (birthdays, holidays, weddings) and the status of any thank-yous.
We store this for one reason: so the app can show it to you and the other members of your family.
Family membership
Thanked organizes content into families. We store which users belong to which family so we can share the same list across everyone in that family.
Device and push-notification information
If you grant permission, we register a device token with the Apple Push Notification service so we can send you reminders (for example, about pending thank-yous). We store the token until you revoke notification permission or delete your account.
Subscription and purchase information
If you purchase a Thanked subscription or other in-app product, we receive a receipt from Apple that confirms your purchase. We don’t receive your full payment details (Apple handles that). We store enough information to know that your account is entitled to premium features.
Diagnostic and usage information
We collect basic diagnostic information — such as crash reports and high-level usage events (e.g., that the app launched, that a screen was viewed) — through Google Firebase (Crashlytics for crash reports, Firebase Analytics for usage events). This helps us fix bugs and understand which parts of the Service people find useful. We don’t use this data to build advertising profiles.
3How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the Service (store your gifts, sync across devices, share with your family);
- Send transactional and reminder notifications you’ve opted into;
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure;
- Process subscriptions and entitlements;
- Improve the Service through bug fixing, analytics, and product development;
- Communicate with you about the Service when you contact us;
- Comply with legal obligations.
4How We Share Your Information
With your family
Thanked is built around shared family lists. Content you add to a family is visible to (and can be edited by) every other member of that family. Don’t add someone to your family unless you’re okay with them seeing the content.
With service providers
We use a small set of vendors to run the Service on our behalf. They’re bound by contract to use your data only to provide their services to us. These currently include:
- Apple — for Sign in with Apple, push notifications, and in-app purchase processing;
- Google Firebase — for storing your account, family list, and photo content, as well as crash reporting and product analytics.
For legal reasons
We may disclose information if we believe it’s necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Thanked, our users, or the public.
In a business transfer
If Thanked is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We’ll let you know before your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use your content for advertising.
5Data Retention
We keep your information only as long as you have an account. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal content within a reasonable period, except where we’re required to retain it for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, or backup purposes. One thing to know: content you contributed to a shared family list before leaving the family may continue to be visible to the remaining members of that family.
6Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, though — please use a strong device passcode and keep your devices updated. If we ever experience a data incident affecting you, we’ll notify you as required by law.
7Your Choices and Rights
- Access and update: Most of your information is editable directly in the app.
- Notifications: Turn off push notifications anytime in iOS Settings → Notifications → Thanked.
- Photos: You choose whether to add photos to gifts; you can delete them at any time.
- Family membership: You can leave a family at any time from the Account screen.
- Account deletion: You can delete your account from the Account screen, or by emailing us.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act — including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at info@thanked.app.
8Children
Thanked is a family app, and children may participate in a shared family list under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian who manages the account. We don’t knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without a parent’s involvement. If you believe a child has provided us with information on their own, please contact us and we’ll delete it.
9International Users
Thanked is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., which may have data-protection laws different from those in your country.
10Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll let you know through the Service or by updating the “Last updated” date above. We encourage you to review it periodically.
